Give A Kid A Coat
In 1987, A Cleaner World kicked off the Give A Kid A Coat program with Kyle Petty and his son donating the first coat at The Salvation Army headquarters in Greensboro. Twenty-eight years and over 788,000 coats later, the program continues to be successful. "The design is simple," said Chris Edwards, President of A Cleaner World. "Area residents check their closets for coats they've outgrown or no longer wear. They drop them off at any A Cleaner World where we clean them and do minor repairs. The Salvation Army then picks up the coats and distributes them to folks in need."
The 2014 campaign will kick off on Friday, October 10 with a live remote held at the A Cleaner World located at 2527 Eastchester Drive in High Point. This year's campaign will also include an Elementary and Middle School Challenge. Schools that wish to participate in the Elementary and Middle School Challenge should encourage parents and students to check their closets for coats to donate and ask parents to drop off coats from October 10 through October 25 individually at any A Cleaner World location. We ask that schools not collect coats on site and then drop them off in bulk. Individuals that wish to receive points for the Elementary and Middle School Challenge should tell the Customer Service Representative at drop off the name of their school. A Cleaner World will keep track of the points. One coat equals one point with a maximum of 10 tally points awarded per drop off. Points will be added up on October 27. The schools with the two highest counts will each be awarded a prize. The winners will be announced on October 28 on the Fox 8 Morning News and 1075KZL’s Morning Show. A Cleaner World will contact the winners following the announcement. Prizes are first place $500 and second place $250. Both Elementary and Middle School Challenges will each have a first and second place winner. All prizes will be made payable to the winning school’s PTA.
The 2014 Give A Kid A Coat campaign will wrap up on Saturday, November 15. Coats donated before October 10 or after November 15 will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Family Stores as part of the Donate Goods…Do Good Campaign. Only the coats donated during the campaign will be cleaned, repaired and given free to families in need. Please help us make sure that no child has to stand at the bus stop without a warm coat. Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, WGHP/Fox 8, 1075KZL, and The Salvation Army.
