25th Anniversary Give A Kid A Coat Off To A Solid Start

Give A Kid A Coat, a campaign that solicits coat donations from area residents in order to provide coats to needy children and adults during the winter, has collected 5,169 coats during the first week of the 2011 campaign.  Although this is slightly less than the first week last year, the campaign is still on track to reach this year's goal of collecting at least 26,773 coats, which would exceed 750,000 coats since the program's inception in 1987.

Chris Edwards, President of A Cleaner World, expressed his confidence in the first week results of this year's campaign.  "Triad residents continue to be extremely generous," said Edwards.  "Unemployment remains high and many families continue to struggle this year.  I am confident that Triad residents will meet the challenge to exceed 750,000 coats this year."  To help keep a child warm this winter, simply check your closet for an outgrown coat or a coat no longer being worn, and drop it off at any A Cleaner World location.  The coats will be cleaned and repaired free of charge and sent to The Salvation Army for distribution.

Triad Salvation Army locations are gearing up to begin distribution.  Greensboro will distribute coats on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning November 9th through December 2nd at 2500 E. Market St. from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  High Point will distribute coats on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning November 8th through December 8th at their Family Life Center at 301 West Green Drive from 9 a.m. to noon.  Winston-Salem will distribute coats on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning December 1st through December 16th at 680 Peters Creek Parkway.  For additional distribution information, contact your local Salvation Army office.

The Elementary School Challenge ended on Saturday, October 29th.  A Cleaner World is tallying the points and winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 1st.
