Give A Kid A Coat 28th Campaign Now Underway
The 2014 Give A Kid A Coat
campaign kicked off this morning by collecting 510 coats during a live event with WGHP/Fox8 and 1075KZL at the A Cleaner World located at 2527 Eastchester Drive in High Point. The event was filled with visits by radio and television personalities, the Chick fil A Cow, the UNC-G Cheerleaders and the Spartan, and the High Point University baseball team with the Panther mascot. Chick fil A, Hardee’s, and Biscuitville all supplied breakfast for the event. Several sets of tickets were given away including Wake Forest football, the Goody’s 500 Race at Martinsville, as well as an autographed mini helmet and football from the Carolina Panthers. Twisted Terror characters were at the kickoff and they are again donating 50% of their proceeds to the Give A Kid A Coat project this year. Southside Bargain Center, who are media sponsors for the campaign came by with six of their staff to drop off coats early this morning.
The Piedmont area Give A Kid A Coat campaign collected, cleaned, and distributed, through The Salvation Army
, 18,429 coats in 2013 and has collected, cleaned, and distributed 788,661 coats since the campaign’s inception in 1987. The 2014 campaign began today and will end on Saturday, November 15, 2014.
Residents wishing to participate in this year’s campaign can bring their outgrown coats or coats no longer being worn to any A Cleaner World location. Coats will be cleaned, repaired, and given to The Salvation Army for distribution to needy children and adults. Distribution will begin in early November, and more details will be provided at that time.
Katie, from Jared and Katie in the Morning Show says: “Your childhood years are meant for making friends, creating memories and having fun! Not worrying about staying warm and saving money for things like a new winter coat. No child should have to grow up before their time. A program like "Give a Kid a Coat" provides children the opportunity to be kids and stay warm and comfortable while doing just that!”
This year Give A Kid A Coat has again issued a challenge to area elementary and middle schools. From October 10th through November 8th, area elementary and middle schools should encourage parents and students to check their closets for coats to donate to Give A Kid A Coat. Those wishing to participate must drop off coats at A Cleaner World. The donor should indicate which school they want to receive credit. A Cleaner World will keep track of the points. One point will be credited per coat up to 10 points maximum per family. Points will be tallied on Monday, November 10th, and winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 11th on Fox 8 Morning Show and WKZL 107.5 radio. Prizes will be awarded as follows: first place $500, second place $250 for the top two schools in each category. All prizes will be made payable to the winning school’s PTA.
Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, WGHP/Fox8, 1075ZKL, and The Salvation Army. For additional information, please call Dianne Berberich at 336-841-4188.
