Give A Kid A Coat Slightly Behind Week 1 of 2013

Give A Kid A Coat, a campaign that solicits coat donations from area residents in order to provide coats to needy children and adults during the winter, has collected 3,160 coats during the first week of the 2014 campaign. This amount is about 500 less than the first week last year, but the campaign is still on track to collect around 16,000 coats at this pace.

Chris Edwards, President of A Cleaner World, expressed his confidence in the first week’s campaign results.  “For the past 27 years our neighbors have come through to help keep our area children warm each winter, and 2014 will not be an exception”, says Edwards. To help, simply check your closet for a coat no longer being worn and drop it off at any A Cleaner World location.  The gently used coats will be cleaned and repaired free of charge and sent to The Salvation Army for distribution.  If you don’t have coats to donate, The Salvation Army has set up a special web page for monetary donations to help fill in with new coats in badly needed sizes and to help offset their expenses in the distribution of coats.

Triad Salvation Army locations are gearing up to begin distribution.  Greensboro will distribute coats from November 17th through the 21st at 3712 S. Holden Rd., from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  High Point will distribute coats from November 17th through the 21st at 318 West Green Drive from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Winston-Salem will distribute coats from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on November 21st and 22nd at 680 Peters Creek Parkway.  Yadkin County will distribute November 14th and 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the old Unifi Warehouse in Yadkinville.  Burlington will distribute from November 17th through the 21st from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at 812 N. Anthony St. in Burlington.  For additional distribution information, contact your local Salvation Army office.

The Elementary and Middle School Challenges, which were increased to four weeks this year, will end on Saturday, November 8th.    A Cleaner World will tally the points and the winners will be announced Tuesday, November 11th, on WGHP/Fox8 and 1075KZL.

Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, WGHP/Fox8, 1075KZL,   and The Salvation Army.  This year we are excited to welcome Southside Bargain Center as our TV media partner.  The 2014 campaign ends on Saturday, November 15th.  For additional information, contact Dianne Berberich at 336-841-4188.
