2009 Give A Kid A Coat Campaign Kicks Off October 23

HIGH POINT, NC - Give A Kid A Coat, an annual program that solicits coat donations from area residents to donate to needy children and adults throughout the Piedmont area, kicks off its 23rd campaign from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009. The kick off will be held at the A Cleaner World located at 2527 Eastchester Drive in High Point. Fox8/WGHP and 1075KZL will both broadcast live during the kick off. Hardees, Ganache Bakery and Café, and Dunkin Donuts will provide breakfast to folks that donate coats, and The Salvation Army will be there serving hot chocolate and coffee.

"A winter coat is one of those things most of us take for granted," said Chris Edwards, President of A Cleaner World, "but this year, with the economic downturn, I believe the need will be even greater than ever. Will you please check your closet for a coat to donate and then join me at the kick off?"

Anyone wishing to contribute to the 2009 Give A Kid A Coat campaign may do so by dropping off a coat at any A Cleaner World location beginning Friday, October 23, 2009 through Saturday, November 28, 2009. Coats will be cleaned and repaired free of charge, then given to The Salvation Army for distribution.

This year Give A Kid A Coat has issued a challenge to area elementary schools. From October 23 to October 30 area elementary schools should encourage parents and students to check their closets for coats to donate to Give A Kid A Coat. Those wishing to participate must drop off coats at A Cleaner World, and the donor should indicate which school they want to receive credit. A Cleaner World will keep track of the points. One point will be credited per coat up to 10 points maximum per family. Points will be tallied on Monday, November 2, and winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 3. Prizes will be awarded as follows: first place $750, second place $500, and third place $250. All prizes will be made payable to the winning school's PTA.

Last year Give A Kid A Coat collected, cleaned, and distributed 26,177 coats. Since its inception in 1987, the campaign has collected, cleaned, and distributed over 600,000 coats.

Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, Fox8/WGHP, 1075KZL, and The Salvation Army. For additional information, please call Barbara Mitchell at 336-841-4188.
