The 2009 Give A Kid A Coat campaign has collected 13,134 coats during the first three weeks of the campaign, which is roughly the same number collected through week three of the 2008 campaign. “With El Nino present, that typically means a colder and snowier winter than normal for us” said Fox 8’s Chief Meteorologist Van Denton. “That also means we need more coats this year.”
Kim Smith with the Winston-Salem Salvation Army reported that distribution is going really well, but they are running short of children’s coats. “We have a particular need for toddler size coats up through elementary school age,” said Smith. “The more the better; the need is that great.”
Residents that wish to participate in this year’s campaign can simply drop off their outgrown coats or coats they no longer wear at the nearest A Cleaner World. Coats will then be cleaned, repaired, and delivered to The Salvation Army for distribution. Families in need of coats should check with their nearest Salvation Army for distribution information as distribution times and locations vary by city.
The 2009 Give A Kid A Coat campaign concludes Saturday, November 28, 2009. Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, The Salvation Army, Fox8/WGHP, and 1075KZL. For additional information, please call Barbara Mitchell at 336-841-4188.
