Give A Kid A Coat, an annual program that solicits coat donations from
area residents to donate to needy children and adults throughout the Piedmont
area, kicks off its 22nd campaign from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October
24, 2008. The kick off will be held at the A Cleaner World located at 1949
Battleground Avenue in Greensboro. Fox8/WGHP and 1075KZL will both
broadcast live during the kick off. Panera Bread, Hardees, and Dewey’s Bakery
will provide breakfast to folks that donate coats, and The Salvation Army will be
there serving hot chocolate and coffee.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the 2008 Give A Kid A Coat campaign
may do so by dropping off a coat at any A Cleaner World location beginning
Friday, October 24, 2008 through Saturday, November 29, 2008. Coats will be
cleaned and repaired free of charge, then given to The Salvation Army for
distribution.
Last year Give A Kid A Coat collected, cleaned, and distributed 27,576
coats. Since its inception in 1987, the campaign has collected, cleaned, and
distributed over 580,000 coats.
“Thanks to the generosity of our community, the hard work done by both
the folks in our stores and The Salvation Army, and the awareness that Fox 8
and 1075KZL provide, this program keeps thousands of kids warm winter after
winter,” said Chris Edwards, President of A Cleaner World. “Kids grow and coats
wear out, and the need is always there. Each year, we check our closets at
home for coats to donate, and I hope you will do the same.”
Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, Fox8/WGHP,
1075KZL, and The Salvation Army. For additional information, please call
